PHANTOM-B goes to Black Hat
A busy Black Hat: A new talk, a new practical tool, and a deadline you should know about
The Talk: Threat Modeling LLMs: The PHANTOM-B Model
This one has been a long time in the making. If you've been following the work here this year, you've seen the pieces coming together, like the AI Systems course with Michael Novack and Shoshana Cox, and the ongoing writing about what it actually means to threat model probabilistic systems. The PHANTOM-B talk at Black Hat is where a significant piece of that work lands publicly.
The problem it addresses is one we hear constantly: existing resources for threat modeling are built for thoroughness, not speed. PHANTOM-B is a practical and validated threat modeling tool designed for LLM products. It's grounded in cognitive psychology research on how experts actually chunk and scaffold information and scoped to real deployment timelines.
The talk is 40 minutes, in the Application Security: Defense track. We'll share more details closer to the date.
Before you go: your last chance for Black Hat training early bird pricing

Image by midjourney: "A photograph of a robot standing at a whiteboard covered in dense academic diagrams and papers, confidently crossing most of it out and replacing it with eight simple glowing symbols in bright marker. The robot has a slight resemblance to a protocol droid — tall, polished, vaguely C-3PO in posture but clearly its own design. The lighting is cinematic and slightly dramatic, with a warm amber glow from one side suggesting a distant star or setting sun through a high window. The overall mood is purposeful and a little heroic, like a briefing before a critical mission." Modified by Gemini: "Keep everything else the same but add a black cowboy hat to the droid"
