Wrong bra, no bra: Jail bars lawyer
Via the Miami Herald: An underwire bra stopped a Miami attorney from seeing her client held at the Miami Federal Detention Center, setting off controversy over the inmate facility’s dress code. The issue here isn’t so much the dress code (though it is problematic) but inconsistent enforcement of previously agreed upon rules. It’s hard to have a fair day i court if your lawyer can’t see you.
I am not an expert on this, but if I understand correctly, an underwire bra at least in some cases is intended to provide additional needed support for women who without it would face legitimate medical consequences such as back pain. So, because an innocent, necessary device sets off a metal detector, even when the source of the alarm is know to be that innocent, necessary device, the wearer of the device is refused entry?
Pardon me for thinking that if the device was a metal leg brace worn by an injured lawyer, there’d be no issue, but when it is a bra all of a sudden things are drastically different.
The female attorneys are being denied due process, and should sue. Plain and simple.
