Data Dilemma
Various folks at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism have done some great work, which they call Data Dilemma: Privacy in an Age of Security [link to http://newsinitiative.org/project/data_dilemma no longer works].
I was led to this by various stories about the US Department of Education feeding information on financial aid applicants to the DHS for five years without bothering to inform those supplying the information.
Coincidentally, the program stopped ten days after Medill grad student Laura McGann started asking about it. Her report [link to http://newsinitiative.org/story/2006/08/15/studying_students no longer works] should be widely read.
